I've never touched a warthog, but I've seen people say it is overpriced for what it is. You can look on /r/hotas for more joystick opinions.ĭual Left/Right joysticks are considered by a lot of people to be the best for Space sims like SC. Having pedals also works nice when transitioning to ground vehicles as it makes driving them more conventional (still using a stick to steer but you can use the pedals for acceleration). I've experimented with spacebrake when pushing the pedals but the Andromedas have a slider lever by the pinky that works really well for this. My mapping is: on right hand - forward/back is pitch, left/right is yaw, on left hand - forward back is vertical strafe, left/right is horizontal strafe, twist is roll, on pedals - z is thrust forward/back. Outside of that, I absolutely love them and don't play SC without them.ĭespite having access to 6 axes (three on each hand), I don't find that the twist axis provides enough granular control of anything other than roll, so I still use my pedals. And the multi-stage trigger is useful but takes some getting used to and has very odd feedback. Some, but not all, of the buttons feel mushy. Build quality is great but the Warthog build quality is still better. The software also allows you to map certain buttons to a shift function, essentially doubling the number of inputs (pinky button works great for this) and it is done at the driver level so to all games it just looks like a control with a bajillion buttons.

Tons of hat switches, buttons, and sliders, all accessible without having to let go of the stick, unlike the base buttons on the T.16000M. I eventually bit the bullet and got me a pair of Constellation Alpha sticks from VIRPIL and I couldn't be happier. I experimented with HOSAS using a pair of TM T.16000Ms and while I loved the sensation of 6DoF flying, I found the sticks to be woefully lacking in easy-to-access buttons with only a basic trigger, one hat switch and 3 face buttons per stick. There are several popular input schemes including HOSAM (stick and mouse) and HOSAS (stick and stick, or more commonly: dual stick). However, I don't find HOTAS to be ideal for SC. The Warthog stick works well enough and between it and the throttle, you should have enough buttons to map most of the stuff you need immediate access to, especially in combat. I do have a TM Warthog stick and throttle combo along with CH Pro Pedals that I use primarily for DCS. I'll share my experience, having tried multiple control setups.
